BLOOD DONATION CAMP & PREVENTION OF THALASSEMIA

Event Overview:

The School of Nursing successfully organized a three-day programme on “Blood Donation Camp & Prevention of Thalassemia” from 24th to 26th September 2025 at SBM Seminar Hall and NIIMS Hospital. The event was designed to create awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation and to educate participants about thalassemia – its causes, prevention, and management.

Healthcare professionals, faculty members, and students actively participated in the programme, making it a significant initiative toward community health promotion.

Objectives of the Programme:

  1. To encourage voluntary blood donation and strengthen the hospital blood bank.
  2. To spread awareness about thalassemia – a genetic blood disorder.
  3. To educate participants about screening, prevention, and management of thalassemia.
  4. To promote the role of nurses and healthcare providers in preventing hereditary diseases.

The Chief Patron for the program was Dr. Devesh Kumar Singh, Hon’ble Chairman,

NIU. He is an educationist and an academic leader with the vision, belief, value,

understanding and work legacy of quality Education.

He is an academic leader with the vision, conviction, appreciation, knowledge, and work legacy of high-quality education.

The Patron for the Program was Prof. (Dr.) Uma Bhardwaj, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor,

NIU. She is a leader in higher education with the vision, conviction, appreciation, knowledge,

and work ethic of great education.

Prof. (Dr.) Tanveer Ahmad Wani, Dean – Quality Assurance & Accreditation, NIU. His vision for the Quality Assurance & Accreditation cell is to establish a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement across all academic and administrative processes of the university.

Prof. (Dr.) Dipak Sethi Director School of Nursing, as the Convenor. He guided and

encouraged us throughout our program.

Programme Highlights:

  • Blood Donation Camp:
    • Conducted under the supervision of NIIMS Hospital doctors and nursing staff.
    • Voluntary donors included students, faculty, and hospital staff.
    • Donors were provided refreshments and certificates of appreciation.
  • Awareness on Thalassemia Prevention:
    • Expert talks by hematologists and healthcare professionals.
    • Sessions covered genetic counseling, carrier detection tests, and preventive strategies.
    • Interactive Q&A sessions encouraged participants to clarify doubts.
    • Posters, presentations, and awareness videos were used to enhance understanding.

Participation:

  • Nursing students, faculty, hospital staff, and community members actively took part.
  • Total participation: 75

Outcomes of the Event:

  1. Collection of 75 blood units for the hospital blood bank.
  2. Increased awareness about thalassemia prevention through early screening and genetic counseling.
  3. Empowerment of students and community members to contribute actively in healthcare.
  4. Positive feedback highlighting the importance of such health-oriented programmes.

Conclusion:

The Blood Donation Camp & Prevention of Thalassemia Programme was a grand success. It not only helped in saving lives through blood donation but also emphasized the importance of preventing genetic blood disorders through awareness and timely screening. The programme strengthened the spirit of social responsibility among students and showcased the School of Nursing’s commitment towards community health and preventive care
