Introduction:
Oum Arham is a unique spiritual mantra from Jain philosophy that carries deep meaning for inner peace, harmony, and positive living. It is composed of two sacred words:
Oum (ॐ): Considered the universal sound, symbolizing purity, creation, and connection with the divine.
Arham (अर्हम्): Refers to the one who is worthy of respect and reverence, often used to denote enlightened beings like Arihantas.
Together, Oum Arham becomes a powerful chant that inspires self-discipline, compassion, and mindfulness. For students, it represents a guiding force to develop concentration, reduce stress, and build positive energy in daily life. By practicing or reflecting upon Oum Arham, one can cultivate inner strength, balance emotions, and enhance clarity of thought—qualities essential for both academic excellence and personal growth.
Aims/Objectives:
- To provide students an opportunity to gain first-hand exposure to Jain philosophy, values, and cultural heritage.
- To help students understand the practical relevance of spirituality, ethics, and mindfulness in everyday life.
- To encourage holistic development by integrating academic knowledge with experiential learning.
- To cultivate inner discipline, concentration, and positive thinking through the teachings of Oum Arham and Jain traditions.
- To inspire students towards moral responsibility, social harmony, and respect for diversity.
- To promote self-reflection and personal growth beyond classroom learning.
Content:
The academic exposure activity was organized on 12th September 2025 (Friday) in collaboration with Jain Teerthankar Gyan Parishad at Shri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir, Chandni Chowk, New Delhi. The program began at 12:30 p.m. with the arrival of faculty members and students of the School of Liberal Arts (SLA), Noida International University at the venue.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Shraddhesh Kumar Tiwari and Dr. Shruti Nagar, with active support from the organizing body. The revered Arham Shri Muni 108 Pranamy Sagar Ji Maharaj presided as the Resource Person, guiding the students through spiritual and philosophical insights.
Detailed Schedule
- 11:30 – 12:30 p.m.: Arrival of students and faculty at Shri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir, registration, and orientation about the temple’s historical and cultural significance.
- 12:45 – 1:15 p.m.: Welcome and introductory remarks by the coordinators.
- 1:15 – 2:15 p.m.: Interactive discourse by Arham Shri Muni 108 Pranamy Sagar Ji Maharaj on the meaning of Oum Arham, principles of Jain philosophy, and their relevance to modern student life.
- 2:15 – 2:45 p.m.: Question-and-answer session, where students engaged with the Maharaj Ji on topics such as stress management, moral responsibility, and practical application of spirituality in academics and careers.
- 2:45 – 03:00 p.m.: Reflection activity and chanting of Oum Arham mantra to experience mindfulness and inner calm.
- 03:00 p.m. onwards: Informal interaction, temple visit, and conclusion of the session.
