On October 1, 2024, the School of Nursing, NIU hosted a comprehensive Breast Cancer Awareness Day at NIIMS Hospital. The event was designed to educate and support female patients through a series of informative and supportive activities.
Breast Self-Examination Workshop
A key highlight of the day was the Breast Self-Examination (BSE) Workshop. B.Sc 7th semester students Mantasha, Kriti, Rana, Ayushi demonstrated the correct techniques for self-examination, emphasizing the importance of regular checks for early detection of abnormalities. Participants were provided with informative brochures and hands-on practice sessions to ensure they felt confident in performing BSE at home.
Educational Workshop
An Educational Workshop was conducted to provide in-depth knowledge about breast cancer, its risk factors, and the latest advancements in treatment options. The workshop aimed to dispel myths and provide factual information to empower women in making informed health decisions.
Awareness Campaign
The Awareness Campaign included a series of activities designed to spread knowledge about breast cancer prevention and early detection. Volunteers distributed pink ribbons and informational pamphlets throughout the hospital and nearby community. Social media platforms were also utilized to reach a broader audience, encouraging women to schedule regular mammograms and stay informed about their breast health.
To encourage participation and create a memorable experience, a Selfie Point was arranged at the event. This dedicated area was decorated with pink ribbons, motivational quotes, and a backdrop highlighting the importance of breast cancer awareness. Attendees were encouraged to take selfies and share them on social media with the hashtag #BreastCancerAwareness NIIMS. This initiative aimed to increase engagement and spread awareness beyond the event.
