Report on Visit to Doordarshan: A Practical Learning Experience for Media Students

The students of BAJMC 4th Semester, 1st Semester, and MAJMC 1st Semester were given the opportunity to visit Doordarshan, a leading name in Indian broadcasting. This visit was an invaluable experience, offering the students a unique chance to witness the inner workings of one of India’s most iconic media organizations.

The students were fortunate to attend a live coverage of a prestigious sports event, which saw the participation of prominent personalities such as Murlikant Petkar, India’s first Paralympics gold medallist, Saweety Boora, Hokato Sema, and Uday Kumar. This live production process provided the students with an in-depth understanding of how a major broadcast is managed, from camera handling and script coordination to real-time decision-making in the newsroom.

Under the guidance of Dean SJMC Dr Aarfa Rajput and two senior faculty members, Dr. Syed Fahar Ali and Dr. Shradha Purohit, the students were able to draw practical connections between their academic learning and real-world applications. Their expert insights and support helped the students navigate through the technicalities and complexities of the media industry.

This visit not only enriched the students’ academic knowledge but also motivated them to hone their skills further. It served as a perfect blend of education and inspiration, emphasizing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the dynamic media field. The hands-on experience at Doordarshan reinforced the importance of adaptability, attention to detail, and teamwork in the fast-paced media industry.
