Introduction:

Noida International University, Greater Noida hosted a literary event titled “Scented Rhymes and Echoes: Saajhe Lamho ki Mehak”, marking the release of the poetry collection, Saajhe Lamho ki Mehak published by Vaani Prakaashan, New Delhi and a Conversation with the poet, Shri Alok Kumar, Director General of Police, Goa on 7th February, 2026. The event stood as a meaningful confluence of administration, journalism and academia which demonstrated how the literature transcends professional boundaries and unites diverse spheres of public life through shared human sensibility and experiences.

Shri Alok Kumar was born and brought up in Bihar. He studied History at Patna College and later completed his LL.B. from the University of Delhi. He joined the Indian Police Service in 1996 and has served in several organizations including Chandigarh Police, Delhi Police, Mizoram Police, Goa Police, NSG, BSF, and CISF. Known for his calm nature, he has handled many sensitive investigations and challenging law-and-order situations, including the 2020 North East Delhi riots. Beyond his distinguished professional career, Alok Kumar brings a deeply holistic worldview that harmoniously integrates self, family, work, and society, a sensibility that finds its most authentic expression in his debut Hindi poetry collection, Saajhe Lamho ki Mehak, Published by Vaani Prakaashan.

Aims/Objectives:

To generate an interest among the potential creative writers and share interest and experience among the literature enthusiasts.

Content:

The literary event commenced on 7th February, 2026 at 11:20 am at the Seminar Hall, SBM Block, Noida International University with the welcoming of the esteemed guests, Shri Alok Kumar, DGP, Goa and poet along with the Shri Brajesh Verman, Retired IPS, writer and artist and Shri N.K Singh, Senior Television Journalist, Editor and Honourable Dignitaries, Prof. (Dr.) Vikram Singh, Honourable Chancellor and Prof. (Dr.) Uma Bhardwaj, Honourable Vice Chancellor and Dr Mukesh Parashar, Registrar. This was followed by the traditional lamp lighting ceremony. The Honourable Dignitaries felicitated the distinguished guests. This warm inauguration symbolized the shared lamha (moment) the title evokes i.e. fragrant, shared and enduring.

Dr Mukesh Parashar, Registrar, Noida International University, shared his reflections on poetry and how the poetry continues to offer the depth and moral reflection. This was followed by the formal release and unveiling of the poetry book, Saajhe Lamho ki Mehak by the poet Shri Alok Kumar, DGP Goa. The poetry collection, Saajhe Lamho ki Mehak was formally released by the Honourable Dignitaries of Noida International University, Honourable Chancellor Sir, Prof. (Dr) Vikram Singh and Honourable Vice Chancellor Ma’am, Prof. (Dr) Uma Bhardwaj, esteemed guests and respected Deans. The Honourable dignitaries congratulated the poet on his creative piece of work.

Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Uma Bhardwaj addressed the gathering at 11:45 am, emphasizing the integral role of literature in holistic education. She commended Shri Alok Kumar’s dual role as a senior police officer and poet and shared her lived experience. At 11:50 am, Honourable Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Vikram Singh shared words of wisdom by encouraging young minds to embrace literature as a means of understanding society and the self and to recognize creativity as a vital force in nation-building. He shared his administrative experiences and how his love for literature sharing few beautiful quotes by the eminent poets of English and Hindi Literature.

The session gained further depth with critical reflections on the book Saajhe Lamho ki Mehak. Shri N. K. Singh, Senior TV Journalist, congratulated the poet and analysed the poetry collection from a journalistic perspective. He appreciated the poet’s ability to capture lived realities, emotional truths and social nuances. He notes that the poems resonate with authenticity and clarity while reflecting contemporary human experiences.

Shri Brajesh Verman, Retired IPS, Writer and Artist, shared his love for literature and art. With thirty-three years as an IPS, a distinguished artist and author of the book Vishwamitra which has been staged across the country. He congratulated Shri Alok Kumar and analysed the stanzas of the poem sharing his experiences where words play a vital role to express oneself.

The centrepiece arrived at 12:05 pm, Shri Alok Kumar shared his personal perspective on Saajhe Lamho ki Mehak. The author, poised yet passionate, recited select verses, revealing the inspirations behind the title- his childhood memories in Benipatti, Madhubani, Bihar, his college days and memories staying in the banks of the Ganges, his professional motivated him to pen down the lines and his lookout for bringing the collections of poetry as a book.

The audience congratulated the poet and had the opportunity to share and interact with the poet, Shri Alok Kumar, which inspired the students and faculty members. The event concluded gracefully with the vote of thanks and acknowledging all speakers.

Outcome: It sparked the interest among potential creative writers and foster sharing of interests and experiences among literature enthusiasts.

Conclusion: The event concluded leaving attendees inspired and united in their love for literature. They departed with the lasting echoes of shared moments, eager to write, share and create.
