Africa Day Celebration at Noida International University

In honour of Africa Day, Noida International University (NIU), Greater Noida on Thursday, May 26th 2022 celebrated Africa Day with the spirit of joy and excitement. The theme for the Day was “Richness of African cultures”.

The Cultural Committee and Ms. Alkananda Misra, Dy.Director Admissions & International Relations, NIU, welcomed Guest of Honour Mr. Coulibaly D Herve, (Head of Consular, Embassy of Burkina Faso), Mr. GNIN Sié (First Secretary,Consul of the Embassy, Embassy of the Republic of Cote D’ivoire), Mr. Eric A. Missah (Head of Consular, Ghana High Commission), Madam Jean Assantewaah Oduro (First Secretary/Consular & Welfare officer, Ghana High Commission), Mr. Christopher E Okeke (Nigeria High Commission) and brought students, faculty, staff members to commemorate the establishment of the African Union (AU) as well as celebrating the achievements made by various leaders of the continent for today’s event. AU day was initiated as a platform to acknowledge and celebrate African history, heritage and culture.

The event was hosted by Ms.Apurva Chatterjee & Ms.Shusneha Sarkar.
The event started with the Lightening of lamp followed by the Speech of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. Uma Bhardwaj and Hon’ble Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Parsanjeet Kumar.
The Vice Chancellor, Dr. Uma Bhardwaj talked about the beauty of Africa and also shared her wonderful experiences at the Africa day event which was hosted at Taj hotel New Delhi.
The Keynote address was given by Mr. Coulibaly D Herve (Head of Consular, Embassy of Burkina Faso) and Mr. Christopher E Okeke (Nigeria High Commission)
Mr. Coulibaly D Herve (Head of Consular, Embassy of Burkina Faso) extended wishes of Africa Day and appreciated the clean and green environment of the NIU campus.
He also shared some words of encouragement and urged the students to focus on their studies in order to change the face of Africa.
Mr. Christopher E Okeke (Nigeria High Commission) extended wishes of Africa day and said “there is the need for universities and nations to collaborate more fully than ever before if we have to reduce inequality and reach the targets set out globally”. He added that he wants to see progress and improvement in their students when they return to their own country.
This annual event aims at portraying the rich African culture, and to also help the African students cherish their unique traditional identity and understand the significance of the AU day.
The University celebration climaxed with a number of activities and cultural performances like dance, recitals, fashion show; showcasing African fabrics and designs and awards for best couples among others.
The National Anthem was sung passionately and the event ended with vote of thanks by Dr.Ruchika Sinha, Member Cultural Committee, NIU.
