CLAY MODELING WORKSHOP

Date: 20th to 22nd Dec 2021

School of Architecture & School of Fine Arts have organized a clay modeling workshop from 20th to 22nd Dec 2021 in the premises of School of Architecture, Ground floor, Newton Block.

The aim of this workshop was to give the touch and feel of clay which is naturally relaxing. Unlike painting and drawing, clay helps students understand the three dimensional aspect of this world. They rolled, flattened, pinched, tapped, etc. that not only help them to develop fine motor skills but also help them to understand the concept of 3D shapes, Learning of basic design principles with an emphasis on three-dimensional design, and the ability to apply these principles to a specific aesthetic intent. This includes functional knowledge of the traditions, conceptual modes, and evolutions of the discipline. Clay modeling is one such alternative that provides a kinesthetic, three-dimensional, constructive, and sensory approach to learning human anatomy, folk toys, and product making.

The resource person for this Workshop was– Dr. Umesh Chandra Nayak, (Acting HoD – School of Fine Arts, NIU).

Day1: Clay Tile Making Exercise:

The students have learnt about making different designs of tile in this exercise.

Day2: Pot Making Exercise:

The Students have learnt to make different pots using the Coiling Process of clay molding.

Day 3: Toy Making Exercise/Sculpture Making Exercise:

In this exercise the students have learnt about different processes for toy making and also for sculpture making. At the end of the Workshop the students have a feedback session with the faculty coordinators and resource person so that we get to know about the feedback as well as the learning of the students.

50 students have participated in this Clay modeling workshop for the School of Architecture and School of Fine Arts.

Outcomes/Benefits: The students get to learn about the different process of clay modeling and also how they can use this for their career prospects as an artist, architect or interior designer. They got the knowledge & exposure about how that sculpture can be an integrated part of the architecture or interior designThey also get to know how to use this methodology for generating different effects on the sculptures and models.

Hon’ble Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Vikram Singh, Hon’ble Pro – Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Parsanjeet Kumar, Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Jayanand, Controller of Examinations Prof. (Dr.) Alok Jain, and OSD to Chairman Dr. Praveen Kumar Tomar, of the Noida International University graced the occasion. Students of both the Schools and Faculty Co-Ordinators were present on this occasion.

Ar. Shaila Naaz welcomed all the dignitaries and then enlightened all the participants regarding the session and the workshop. Ar, Sheena Mehra spoke about the aim and objective of the Session. Then our resource person gave a presentation about working techniques and methodologies.
