Introduction

The International Conference on Structural Biology and Drug Discovery (ICSBDD) 2023 was hosted by Gautam Buddha University, under the auspices of the State Government of UP, from October 11 to 12, 2023. This annual conference is a globally renowned event that unites experts, researchers, and students to exchange knowledge and ideas in the fields of structural biology and drug discovery. Noida international university students from Biotechnology Department were well-represented at the event, with a group of enthusiastic students and an exceptional student coordinator, Dr. Jyoti Chaudhary, Assistant Professor. The conference’s prestige was further elevated by the presence of the esteemed Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) T. P. Singh, a leading Indian biophysicist renowned for his work in rational structure-based drug design, structural biology of proteins, and X-ray crystallography.

Conference Highlights

Keynote Address by Prof. (Dr.) T. P. Singh

The conference commenced with a captivating keynote address by the distinguished Indian biophysicist, Prof. (Dr.) T. P. Singh. Dr. Singh’s influential work in rational structure-based drug design, structural biology, and X-ray crystallography made his presentation a significant highlight of the event. His insights into the latest advancements in structural biology and their applications in drug discovery were both inspiring and illuminating, setting the tone for the entire conference.

ICSBDD 23 featured an array of scientific sessions, each dedicated to specific aspects of structural biology and drug discovery. The conference program encompassed the following sessions:

Protein Structure Determination: This session provided a comprehensive overview of cutting-edge techniques in protein structure determination, including X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy, and NMR spectroscopy.

Computational Approaches in Drug Design: Experts shared insights into computational methods and tools for rational drug design, highlighting the growing influence of artificial intelligence and machine learning in this field.

Target Identification and Validation: The significance of identifying and validating potential drug targets was emphasized, with real-world case studies showcasing the successful development of pharmaceutical agents.

Structural Insights in Drug Discovery: Presenters elucidated the pivotal role of structural biology in drug discovery, emphasizing how it contributes to the development of novel therapeutic strategies.

Emerging Trends in Structural Biology: This session highlighted emerging trends, such as single-particle cryo-electron microscopy, in-situ structural biology, and elucidating protein-ligand interactions.

Student Participation

Our Biotechnology Department Final year students (Nutan, Prgati, Naman & Akshay) & B.tech 2nd & 3rd year students (Isha, Twinkal & Rishu) played an active role in various facets of the conference. They contributed through poster presentations, workshops, and networking with experts in the field. Several students took the opportunity to present their research findings during the poster sessions, benefiting from valuable feedback provided by both their peers and seasoned researchers.

ICSBDD 23 was an exceptional event that provided a valuable platform for our students and faculty to immerse themselves in the latest developments in structural biology and drug discovery. Prof. (Dr.) T. P. Singh keynote address and the comprehensive scientific sessions offered in-depth insights and fostered collaboration among attendees.

Our students had the opportunity to interact with renowned experts in the field, present their own research, and gain a profound understanding of the practical applications of structural biology in drug discovery. Dr. Jyoti Chaudhary’s leadership and the enthusiastic participation of the students greatly enriched the conference experience, further establishing our Biotechnology Department’s reputation in the field.

ICSBDD 23 undoubtedly contributed to the growth of our students and the advancement of our department’s research endeavors. The knowledge and experiences acquired during this conference will undoubtedly enhance our contributions to the fields of biotechnology, structural biology, and drug discovery.
