School of Allied Health Sciences, Noida International University organized a visit to The TLM Hospital under the supervision of Dr. Supriya Awasthi, Professor & Head SOAHS, Dr. Pallavi Prakash, and Dr. Pragya Sharma (PT) (Assistant Professor, SOAHS). Students visited the TLM hospital, which was founded in 1874 as ‘The Mission to Lepers’ by an Irishman named Wellesley Cosby Bailey in Ambala, India. Subsequently, in 1973, The Leprosy Mission Trust India (TLMTI) was registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act of 1860. TLMTI is the largest leprosy-focused non-governmental organization in India and is headquartered in New Delhi, India. The organization works with people affected by leprosy and other neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), people with disabilities, and marginalized communities, especially women. Students gained a deeper understanding of leprosy, its management, reconstruction surgery, and stigma related to leprosy. Patient interaction helped them to acknowledge their illnesses, the associated risks, and the advantages of consistent treatment, which furthermore stimulates or strengthens their perception of control over their health and the knowledge to discern symptoms and the importance of self-care and identify changes in their condition.
